Contemporary History

The fourth and last era, generally referred to as Contemporary History, is characterized by colonialism and industrialization. The oil lamp, fueled by vegetable oil, gradually falls into disuse. It is substituted by lamps burning mineral oil such as kerosene lamps; these are, in turn, soon replaced by electric lighting.
